Supporting TRP

What Is TRP?

TRP is an open protocol for Travel Rule data exchange, enabling interoperability between dozens of Travel Rule providers and VASPs.

VASPs that are not reachable via open protocols like TRP may receive emails from counterparties.

Did you receive an email with Travel Rule notifications from other VASPs?

If you received Travel Rule notification emails and do not have a Travel Rule solution in place yet, we recommend you start supporting TRP as your counterparties do.

This will allow your firm to:

  • Be reachable and identifiable by counterparties automatically
  • Process Travel Rule notifications via API
  • Accept or Reject crypto transfers before they are sent on-chain

As TRP is an open standard, any VASP or solution provider can implement it for free. This means a fully fledged solution can be built using the standard. If you wish to use a ready-made solution, 21 Travel Rule supports TRP and is ready to be deployed.

If you are not sure which is the right choice for you, contact us.

I already have a Travel Rule solution implemented:

If you already have an implemented solution that supports open Travel Rule protocols like TRP, you should not be receiving email notifications, but automated notifications via the API. Something may be wrong.

Make sure your firm is providing users with Travel Addresses - these should be generated by your Travel Rule provider and are key to automatically receiving Travel Rule data via APIs.

If you are not sure whether you have the right setup or are having other issues, contact us or your provider directly.

My Travel Rule solution is a closed network and does not support TRP:

If your Travel Rule solution only connects with its own network, you are not interoperable as it does not support the open standard for Travel Rule communication, TRP.

Therefore, you may receive emails from counterparties who are not part of your chosen solution's network as an alternative.

If you wish to connect to VASPs globally while avoiding emails, you can request your solution provider implement it and start supporting TRP. Otherwise, your firm can also implement it, as TRP is free and open-source. Learn more.
