21 Travel Rule: Version 8.0.0 Released
The release of 21 Travel Rule version 8.0.0 introduces enhanced support for legal persons, refined workflows, and a smoother overall user experience.
Improvements have been made across the AOPP Portal, Compliance Dashboard, Encrypted Email workflow, TRP, and core infrastructure to ensure compliance remains efficient and secure for VASPs.
21 Travel Rule 8.0.0: A Smoother, Smarter Compliance Experience
More Wallets and Improved Experience in AOPP Portal
The AOPP Portal now supports even more self-hosted wallets. With the latest update, Phantom wallet users can also verify their wallet with one click, and Tronlink wallet users can expect an even smoother verification process.
Error handling has been made consistent across all wallets, offering more helpful guidance when a user-submitted address does not match the wallet address expected by the VASP.
Users will also notice more informative feedback when attempting to perform a self-hosted wallet verification with an already used proof.
Behind the scenes, the backend microservices are now fully decoupled, increasing the platform's security. Deprecated connections have been removed to decrease the attack surface.
For Transactions with Not-Ready VASPs, Encrypted Email Was Improved
The Encrypted Email workflow now fully supports Legal Persons, a highly demanded feature.
The VASP database now has more popular VASPs pre-populated for guaranteed compliance with not-ready or non-TRP firms. It is now possible to leverage verified Travel Rule emails to automatically send the encrypted required data.
The workflow now also includes an optional comment in reports under Additional remarks, allowing for further information, e.g. about non-standard virtual assets, etc.
Additionally, the encrypted email text sent to counterparties has been upgraded to provide clearer instructions during the confirmation process, streamlining communication and reducing errors.

Upgraded TRP Flexibility and Security
The Travel Rule Protocol (TRP) API now prevents errors by design in legal person management.
Another highly requested feature has been implemented: VASPs can now change the wallet address linked to a Travel Address through the API, making it possible to use a different wallet address for each transaction. This ensures that any custody approach VASPs choose for their customers can be accommodated in the 21 Travel Rule solution.
To add further safeguards, VASPs cannot change their Legal Entity Identifiers (LEI) configuration (changing LEIs can invalidate a counterparty’s due diligence).
Out-of-band Incoming Transaction’s Latest Features
For incoming transactions that fall outside of normal expected processes, for example, a transaction that came through a different channel, it is now possible to add an optional comment.
Additionally, support for legal persons has also been added to the Compliance Dashboard, eliminating the need to rely on the API alone. Moreover, the restriction on legal IDs being in LEI format has been removed, acknowledging that not all companies are financial intermediaries.
Compliance Dashboard Improvements
The Compliance Dashboard itself has been refined to offer a more polished experience. Links in the Audit Log and the header menu labels have been improved, resulting in more straightforward navigation to exact records and sections.
21 Travel Rule’s Infrastructure Improvements
Finally, the infrastructure has been improved in line with best practices. The software’s behind-the-scenes setup has been improved for better security and consistency, and several services have been simplified and organised more clearly for VASPs implementing 21 Travel Rule.
With 21 Travel Rule 8.0.0, compliance processes for legal persons are more robust, user experience is more intuitive, and security standards have been strengthened. This release reflects our continued commitment to making Travel Rule compliance as seamless and secure as possible for all VASPs.
