What Is an Unhosted Wallet?

Wallets can be hardware or software used to store, hold or transfer virtual currencies.

Unlike custodial wallets, unhosted wallets are wallets where the owner has complete control over their private key. Unhosted wallets go by many names. In the Bitcoin industry, unhosted wallets are usually called non-custodial wallets, self-custodial wallets, or just wallets; in the EU, they are referred to as self-hosted wallets.
