21 Travel Rule: Easier Phantom Self-hosted Wallet Verification

17 Sept, 2025

Phantom is now supported by AOPP

With the release of our Travel Rule solution, 21 Travel Rule V8.0.0, AOPP has extended its support to include the popular self-hosted wallet Phantom.

VASPs and their customers can quickly and securely verify ownership via the AOPP Portal. This integration ensures regulatory compliance while maintaining a seamless user experience.

Why Support Phantom

Since its launch, Phantom has attracted more than 15 million users. Moreover, because the wallet originated on Solana and supports the Bitcoin, Ethereum and Polygon blockchains (also all supported by AOPP), it has become one of the most sought-after self-hosted wallets in the market today.

By integrating Phantom into the growing list of AOPP-supported wallets, VASPs using 21 Travel Rule are guaranteed Travel Rule compliance while offering their customers even more flexibility with a user-friendly experience, while safeguarding their digital assets.

Phantom and the AOPP Portal

Please note that this process can be completely automated. The steps described below are to illustrate what happens during the process for a more in-depth understanding.

With 21 Travel Rule, VASPs can offer easy verification of Phantom wallet ownership. By connecting with 21's API, the VASP interface shows the AOPP Portal to the user when they request to transact, be it a withdrawal or deposit.

There, the user can now choose Phantom to prove wallet ownership and complete the signing request with one click. Once this step is completed, the user continues with the transaction as usual, now having whitelisted their wallet address and proved ownership.

In the background, the VASP team securely receives and stores the cryptographic signature locally, linking the user to a specific blockchain address as proof of regulatory compliance.

Compliance with Minimal Efforts

By implementing Phantom in our expansive range of supported self-hosted wallets, VASPs can now access a fast, seamless solution for self-hosted wallet proofs, without sacrificing the user experience, unlike more cumbersome methods such as manual signing.

Proofs generated through the AOPP Portal are secure and fully compliant with the Travel Rule, while offering wallet owners greater flexibility and a streamlined experience that protects their digital assets.
